Boat Building Plans

It is challenging to build a boat, even if you are a talented wood worker or welder.  If you have ever put any thought into building a boat, you might consider these four great reasons to turn your dreams into reality:

Quality.  Building your own boat assures that you will create a quality project, because you will likely spend the time required to build the boat to the best of your ability.  A factory built boat is built under certain time constraints and the people who build those boats can only allocate a certain amount of time to each project.  If they spend too much time on any one boat, they are losing money that they cannot hope to recover in the sale of the boat.  The bottom line is it cuts into their profits, so they will take short cuts where they can and skimp on materials, if possible. You do not have the same time pressures, so you can afford to spend the time to build your boat to the best quality you can achieve.

Costs. Shopping around for materials is the best way to save on costs.  Sometimes really great deals pop up that you just cannot pass on.  You also have the ability to purchase supplies in bulk for many projects.  This adds up to some serious costs savings in the long run. On the other hand, factory built boats pass all of their costs on to you, with profit factored in. You are paying for materials, shop time and labor costs, which can be very expensive.  There is no reason why you cannot build your own boat, if you purchase a very good set of boat plans. Do not skimp on this cost, you need a reasonably detailed set of plans that are supported with DVDs and reading material so that you can finish the project.

Home Business. Do you hate your job?  Do you love boats?  Why not combine your love of boats and your boat building into a job that you actually enjoy doing? Don’t quit your day job just yet. Get a few builds under your belt and check the finished product out first.  Try selling one or two of your builds and see if you get any response. Many people are looking for affordable boats, so this can easily be a very rewarding line of work.

History.  No, not world history, the history of the boat.  When you buy a used boat from someone, you have no idea of the history of that boat. The seller is certainly not going to volunteer any repair information to you if they did a really good job and it doesn’t show up. The seller wants to sell the boat, and may not care to fill you in on all those dirty details.  If you build your own boat, you are not purchasing the problems that go along with a used boat.  The added bonus is that you will know every detail of that boat and how to repair it, if needed.

When you decide to build your own boat, you should start with the most simple project that you can find. Do not take on too much, make sure it is doable.  The key to finishing your build is the simplicity of the plan.  Once you are successful with your first build, there will be no stopping you!
